We had some VERY uninvited visitors stop by on Christmas. They came into our house, reeked havoc on everyone, including poor Grandma Janet. Because of them we missed some family parties and yummy Christmas treats. This motley crew was named Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and with it it brought an ear infection, and Croup. After a visit to an Urgent Care Center on Christmas Day (Sophie) and the Emergency Room (Henry) the day after- everyone was feeling a little better. We were able to keep some traditions this year despite fevers, running noses, coughing, crankiness, and sleeplessness.
Radim made his annual Slovak Christmas Eve dinner. It consists of Kapustnica (cabbage soup with kielbasa), zemakove salat (potato salad), and Salmon (traditionally Slovaks eat Karp, but we like Salmon better- at least its fish!)

Christmas Eve was a rough night for Sophie. She had a fever and woke up frequently throughout the night(found out later in the evening she had an ear infection). Even though she was feeling pretty miserable she still had fun unwrapping her presents. After unwrapping, however, she immediately went to lay on the couch. Henny was in good spirits and really didn't show any signs of Croup until the next day.
That afternoon Henny and I went to Grandma and Grandpa Reibling's house for a quick Christmas dinner sans Radim and Soph. She was still having a fever so when I got home I took her to an urgent care center. Thankfully they had a pharmacy in-house so we were able to start the antibiotics right away.
The next day Henny and I went to Grandma and Grandpa Hollenbach's house.
It was hard splitting up the family over Christmas but we were thinking that we could prevent Henny from getting sick. We found out later that evening that we couldn't!
