Skolka means "little school" or preschool in Slovak. Skolka is every Friday night at 7pm (yes, 7pm they couldn't have picked a worse hour for preschoolers, right?) Our Czech/Slovak Sokol (group) puts on a school during this time. School-aged children have Czech/Slovak language classes, while the younger siblings go to skolka. After school is over they have open gym where they do warm up exercises and then gymnastics until 10pm. Its a bit overwhelming for Sophie but she really enjoys it. The hour is horrendous, so we try for later naps on Fridays and usually leave early.
The video here is of the warm-ups. On the first day I was almost expecting the leader of this routine to pull out a Soviet flag and have them turn towards the "Mother Land"...he clearly left during communism and knows no other way of warming up. Radim remembers warm-ups like these when he was a kid- so we have to laugh. Soon after this though they really have a blast! I swear. At least Sophie likes the marching b/c its like the elephants in the Jungle Book!
